Le Touquet is perhaps the jewel of the Opal Coast (Cote d’Opale) with its famous and extensive sandy beach (Paris Plage) and its fine boutiques and shops.
It also boasts a Casino and some splendid Hotels, right out of ‘La Belle Epoque’ era, and also excellent restaurants, including fish restaurants, where one can enjoy moules frites washed down with a chilled muscadet. Many of the restaurants offer ‘al fresco’ dining.
Various events are organised throughout the year, including sand yacht racing on its famous beach. Again, information can be obtained from the town’s tourist office.
The nearby fishing village of Etaples and its famous fish market and restaurants are also worth a visit, as well as its herring festival in the Autumn. So also are the beaches of Merlimont and Berck.
