The area offers some famous battle sites, such as Agincourt and Crecy, as well as World War One sites. All are well worth visiting, including the bunkers at ‘La Coupole’.
Sadly, the region is dotted about with war cemeteries, which in themselves are also worth visiting, including the small British Cemetery just outside Hesdin in Huby St. Leu.
The museum at Agincourt (spelt Azincourt), near Fruges, known as ‘The Medieval Centre’ (‘Le Centre Historique Medieval’) is particularly well presented and, even though the French lost the famous battle on 25 October, 1415, they are still proud of their museum which commemorates it! Allow an hour and a half for the visit to the museum and afterwards to the battle field itself, just outside the village, with its informative orientation plan.
