Here are a few ideas for your shopping expeditions.

Montreuil is particularly good for antique furniture, pictures and bric-a-brac.  You’ll also find The Wine Society shop there

Boulogne has many excellent shops and a very good Auchan Hypermarket just outside of town at St Martin.  In town, on rue Thiers, you’ll find Philippe Olivier’s famous cheese shop and Sergeant Major, an excellent children’s clothes shop.

Near St Omer at Arques, visit the Crystal d’Arques factory shop for bargain prices on a vast range of glassware and other items.  Visit the famous glassware factory, too, if you have the time.

Le Touquet has some wonderful, though perhaps rather expensive, boutiques and household gift shops.  The market is well worth a visit too.

At Calais, near the Tunnel Terminal you’ll find the Cite Europe shopping centre and the Marques Avenue factory outlet centre.  There are also a number of wine and beer warehouse outlets, but their prices are often higher than you’ll find in ordinary supermarkets, so do check the supermarket price before you buy from them.

Try a visit to the Chocolate Factory in Beussent and buy their wickedly delicious hand made chocs

Buy a fresh local cheese direct from the producer at Le Sire de Crequy in the neighbouring village, or a Brebis (ewes milk cheese) in Coupelle Vieille.

Nip down the Crequoise valley to buy Perle de Groseilles, a sort of redcurrant champagne, direct from the producer

Brocantes

The area is famous for its 'brocantes' - second-hand furniture, curiosities, antiques and bric-a-brac fairs, which are held in various towns and villages throughout the year. Further information is available from local tourist offices.
